Liv Morgan and Iyo Sky opened the major WWE premium live event, SummerSlam, at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. The first match set the tone for the rest of the evening with a high-energy display.
Morgan, holding the women’s world championship, hadn’t defended her title recently. Previously, she was defeated by Iyo Sky in the Queen of the Ring finals. Despite this, Morgan demonstrated resilience and faced Sky head-on.
As Sky attempted to take the fight outside the ring, Morgan reversed the momentum. She threw Sky into the barricade, landed a strike to the ribs, and executed the Three Amigos skillfully.
Sky, known for her quick turnarounds, seized control with a kick to Morgan’s head followed by a missile dropkick. Her Bullet Train Attack positioned Morgan perfectly for Sky’s next move. Morgan, vulnerable on the middle rope, was hit with a sunset-flip powerbomb outside the ring.
Despite Sky’s advantage, Morgan received assistance from Roxanne Perez and Raquel Rodriguez. Perez distracted officials, allowing Rodriguez to disrupt Sky’s plans, though Morgan couldn’t pin Sky immediately.
Sky retaliated with a moonsault that took out both Perez and Rodriguez. Morgan regained focus momentarily but was soon caught by Sky’s Spanish Fly from the top rope.
Sky increased her intensity with a double underhook faceplant, backbreaker, and even used Morgan’s Oblivion finisher. Yet, Morgan remained unyielding, fighting off a German suplex and a Bullet Train Attack.
Sky attempted her Over the Moonsault, but Morgan got her knees up, turning the tides. With precision, Morgan executed a sequence starting with Oblivion, followed by a codebreaker, and concluded with another Oblivion, securing her victory.
Morgan celebrated her win, having successfully retained her Women’s World Championship against one of her toughest opponents in the Raw roster.
