Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin criticized ABC and NBC for not broadcasting President Donald Trump’s election-security address on their main networks. He accused them of withholding information from the public as midterm elections approach.
“How shameful is that?” said Mullin about the networks’ decision. “ABC and NBC not carrying that. Why? What are they trying to cover up?”
Mullin’s comments came after CBS aired part of the remarks but cut away, while Fox News broadcasted the entire speech live. ABC and NBC opted to stream the address online. CNN chose not to air it live, and MS NOW showed a portion before also cutting the coverage.
Mullin mentioned that these networks had previously amplified assurances about the 2020 election, questioning why they now avoided Trump’s declassified intelligence presentation.
“Two major networks didn’t want to cover it?” Mullin stated. “What facts did they have before? President Trump gave facts. Today we’re giving facts,” he emphasized.
The speech included the release of sensitive intelligence showing vulnerabilities in the voting system and foreign attempts to access American voter data. Trump urged Congress to pass the SAVE America Act, advocating for voter identification and proof-of-citizenship.
Trump directly criticized ABC and NBC for not televising the address. He accused them of being part of a media plot to continue the alleged fraud.
“They don’t like the topic because they know how corrupt our system is,” Trump claimed. “You can’t have a great country without free and fair elections.”
Mullin supported Trump’s views, calling the networks’ decisions “shameful” and questioning their motives.
Additionally, Trump argued for regulatory actions against networks not broadcasting his remarks, suggesting the possibility of losing their licenses. However, it should be noted that the Federal Communications Commission licenses individual broadcast stations, not national networks.
