Three news organizations banned by President Donald Trump from the White House have filed a First Amendment lawsuit to regain access. CNN, Politico, and MS NOW announced the legal action on Monday. In their statement, they emphasized their commitment to defending press freedom and ensuring the government does not dictate media content.
The joint statement declared, “We informed the government this morning of our lawsuit to protect our First Amendment rights. The White House revoked our credentials without notice because it disagreed with our reporting. Unchecked, this threatens press freedom and the public’s right to independent journalism.”
On Friday, Trump stated via Truth Social that the outlets were banned due to their “constant ‘reporting’ FAKE NEWS!” He argued that media should not cover the presidency with “FICTION and LIES.” Trump hinted that more outlets could face similar bans.
Correspondents from the three outlets were denied entry to the White House on Saturday morning. MS NOW’s Akayla Gardner reported on air that her access badge had been taken.
This situation continues to develop, with further updates to come.
