Andrew Kolvet, spokesperson for Turning Point USA, expressed concern over the viral ‘looksmaxxing’ trend, highlighting it as a critical warning sign. He pointed to a growing void in mentorship for young men seeking guidance.
“This is all a giant red warning sign,” Kolvet said on “The Will Cain Show.”
Kolvet emphasized that young men are on the lookout for mentors and guidance amid the social chaos they face. He acknowledged the appeal of Clavicular, a prominent influencer in the ‘looksmaxxing’ scene, yet urged for a focus on deeper values.
‘Looksmaxxing,’ a trend gaining traction online, focuses on enhancing physical appearance through fitness, grooming, and facial aesthetics. Clavicular, known for promoting ‘looksmaxxing,’ discussed practices like ‘bone smashing.’ This involves using a hammer to create microfractures in the jaw to encourage regrowth, though he cautioned against attempting it without medical advice.
While Kolvet lauded Clavicular’s charisma, he urged young men to focus on ‘charactermaxxing’ instead, nurturing aspects like faith and social skills with enduring significance.
Medical experts have raised concerns regarding the risks of practices like ‘bone smashing,’ warning of potential serious injuries.
Clavicular expanded on ‘looksmaxxing’ in a podcast appearance, describing it as a holistic self-improvement approach that enhances everyday interactions.
“Looksmaxxing is the most well-rounded form of self-improvement,” Clavicular explained, noting the benefits of improving one’s physical appearance.
Kolvet underscored mentorship’s importance, advocating for older individuals to guide young men on navigating the tumultuous social landscape.
“Please, please, please find young men that you can mentor,” Kolvet stressed.
He identified positive mentorship as key to breaking through challenges faced by young men.
