The Mexican government is collaborating with three US counties to investigate the deaths of 17 Mexican nationals who died in US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody or during ICE operations. In Harris County, Texas, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a Mexican national, was shot and killed by an ICE agent while in his work van in Houston. In Ventura County, California, Jaime Alanís García died after falling from a greenhouse during an ICE operation. Both cases have fueled tensions between Mexico and the US.
The 17 Deaths Under Investigation
According to Velasco Álvarez, 14 out of the 17 deaths occurred while the individuals were in immigration detention centers or after being transferred for medical treatment. The remaining three happened during enforcement operations. The cases in the mentioned counties have particularly drawn media and political attention.

Jaime Alanís García suffered fatal injuries during a large-scale immigration raid in Camarillo, California, sparking debates over enforcement tactics.
