Apple TV’s MLB reporter Tricia Whitaker experienced an unexpected injury while covering the Baltimore Orioles’ game against the Detroit Tigers. An Adley Rutschman line drive struck her forearm, leading to a brief sideline injury handled by the Orioles’ medical team. Whitaker shared images of the event on social media, assuring fans she was fine with an ice pack and wrap on her arm.
On social media, Whitaker humorously acknowledged the incident, saying, “Adley Rutschman’s exit velocity remains top-notch. My forearm is the evidence.” She added that she unexpectedly became the subject of an injury update instead of reporting one. Despite the incident, she expressed gratitude to the medical staff for their prompt assistance throughout the game.
The game eventually ended in Baltimore’s favor with a 7-4 victory. Rutschman contributed with two hits out of five at-bats, including a powerful line drive that wasn’t just aimed at the ball field.
Fortunately, Whitaker had a chance to rest as the next game was postponed due to rain across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. Friday’s match was a success for the Orioles, with Whitaker reporting interactions with several players in her usual role.
Afterwards, Whitaker seemed well and continued to share personal updates, including her ensemble for the Indy 500, via Instagram. Her next challenge might involve dodging tires instead of baseballs.
Tommy Pham, Kansas City Royals outfielder, also participated in interviews with Whitaker, showcasing the shared experience during the Royals’ win over the Minnesota Twins.
