NFL fans have elevated pregame fashion into a notable spectacle, driven by media attention on players’ attire. In a week filled with fashion statements, Cincinnati Bengals defensive tackle Landon Robinson emerged as Week 1’s standout.
Unlike others who donned stylish suits or casual wear, Robinson made an exceptional choice by appearing in his complete dress uniform during the Sunday game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This wasn’t a mere display of style or attention seeking. Robinson, a Naval Academy alumnus, was honoring his commitment as a military officer, timed with the NFL’s tribute to the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
Robinson, having graduated with a degree in cyber operations in May 2026, was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Marine Corps. Thanks to a specific rule allowing service academy athletes to play professionally, Robinson can balance his career with the Cincinnati Bengals while serving in the reserves. The Bengals picked Robinson in the seventh round of the draft, marking Cincinnati’s first service-academy player drafted since 1968.
Despite being inactive for Sunday’s game, Robinson’s presence on the 53-man roster for the start of the season is commendable. His time at the Naval Academy honed his leadership, discipline, and work ethic, key attributes that secured his spot on the team.
Robinson expressed how the Academy shaped him post-draft: “The Naval Academy, it’s a leadership laboratory.” His undersized stature, at 6-foot, 295 pounds, did not deter him from succeeding in the competitive environment of an NFL roster.
This achievement deserved recognition and celebration, reflecting his dedication both on and off the field.
