In Oslo, wild celebrations erupted overnight as Norway’s men’s national team secured a spot in the World Cup knockout stages. Excited supporters flocked to the residence of 89-year-old King Harald V, eager for him to join their festivities.
Despite the match concluding around 4 a.m. on Tuesday, Norwegian fans took to the streets in jubilation after witnessing their team’s thrilling 3-2 victory against Senegal in Group I’s second round. Oslo was buzzing with football fever, despite Tuesday being a regular workday.
A large crowd marched along Oslo’s main avenue toward the royal palace, chanting: “We’re going to wake up the king.” Upon arriving at the palace square, hundreds of supporters sat on the ground to perform the “Viking rowing” celebration.
The Norwegian Royal House did not confirm if King Harald or Queen Sonja were awakened by the celebrations or had stayed up to watch the match. Their only statement was: “The Royal House rejoices with the rest of the country over the men’s national team’s victory last night.”
