Brandon Newsom, formerly a senior Pentagon official, has departed from his role at the Department of the Navy. This comes after undercover footage was released showing him criticizing former President Donald Trump. The announcement was made by Acting Navy Secretary Hung Cao, who stated: The individual is no longer employed by the Department of the Navy.
Cao did not specify whether Newsom was dismissed, resigned, or left for another reason.
Earlier in the week, conservative activist James O’Keefe released hidden-camera footage that allegedly captured Newsom’s disparaging remarks about Trump and efforts to counteract the former administration’s policies. Newsweek has yet to independently verify the authenticity of the recording.
In the footage, Newsom expressed a desire to remain at the Pentagon to eventually overturn actions taken by the Trump administration. He noted certain policies conflicted with his personal beliefs, citing specific issues like religious services at the Pentagon and changes affecting federal employees.
Newsom also referred to Trump as a textbook narcissist,
and criticized the Iranian conflict, labeling it completely stupid
and driven by personal ego.
Following the video’s release, Acting Secretary Hung Cao placed Newsom on administrative leave, pending further review. Cao emphasized that the conduct and statements exhibited in the video are taken seriously by the Department of the Navy. He stated: Such statements and apparent intent to leverage a position to undermine the policies and direction set by our elected leaders are inappropriate and incompatible with the standards expected of Department personnel.
