The NBA preseason has kicked off, and the Philadelphia 76ers secured a victory over the defending champions, the New York Knicks, with a score of 120-97. Despite not having all their top players on the court, the 76ers showcased impressive performance against the Knicks.
Before the game, Knicks coach Mike Brown assured that nearly all his players would see action, and he followed through on that promise. The starters played significant roles, with OG Anunoby and Jalen Brunson each contributing 12 points in their allotted time. However, their efforts fell short as Karl-Anthony Towns, Josh Hart, and Mikal Bridges combined for only 10 points.
After the game, Jalen Brunson discussed the team’s performance, acknowledging that the season ahead could present challenges with revamped teams like Philadelphia. “It’s a good first step,” Brunson stated. “Not a great first step, but as long as we’re making strides in the right direction, it’s something to be happy about. There’s still a lot for us to learn and improve on early.”
The Knicks understand that the regular season will bring a different level of competition. The starters are expected to gain more significant playing time, which could alter the dynamics of future games. They are eager to begin the regular season by potentially spoiling the debuts of LeBron James and Jaylen Brown with the 76ers.
During the preseason matchup, Philadelphia fans were treated to an impressive performance by Jaylen Brown at Xfinity Mobile Arena. Playing 17 minutes, Brown managed to score 22 points by hitting 8 out of 13 shots. His teammate, VJ Edgecombe, also made a strong showing, contributing 12 points, seven assists, and four rebounds over 20 minutes on the court.
The two teams are set to face off again in the regular season on Tuesday, Oct. 20, in New York, where the competition will intensify with the goal of acquiring the first regular season win.
