Monday’s game between the Buffalo Bills and the Los Angeles Rams concluded with unexpected drama. Rams offensive lineman Alaric Jackson threw a punch at Bills edge rusher Bradley Chubb, sparking curiosity about the exchange that led to it.
Jackson’s reaction resulted in a suspension for the upcoming Week 6 game against the Arizona Cardinals. Initially, the NFL handed him a two-game suspension, later reducing it to one game. Such incidents are rare, especially between teams lacking a historic rivalry like the Rams and the Bills. Nonetheless, Chubb revealed postgame remarks that explain the animosity between the players.
Chubb addressed the media on Wednesday, clarifying his comments to Jackson after the match. According to ESPN’s Sarah Barshop, Chubb said, “I’ve heard I was talking about his mom. That’s not true at all. I said: ‘We’re gonna see y’all’s a** again. And when we see you again, all that chipping ain’t gonna save you. That tight end and guard is not going to save you.’ He said, ‘What’d you say?’ I said, ‘That chip’s not gonna save you. The guard’s not gonna save you.’ And then boom.”
The only scenario where these teams would face off again this season would be a meeting at Super Bowl LXI. Currently, the Bills seem like strong AFC contenders for the Super Bowl, unlike the Rams in the NFC. However, a turnaround for the Rams could set the stage for a thrilling rematch.
In Week 6, the Rams will aim for a comeback against the Arizona Cardinals. Meanwhile, the Bills will strive to continue their success facing the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday afternoon.
