Primm Family Partners with Terrible’s to Revitalize Resorts

In a last-minute effort to save their Nevada resorts from closure, the Primm family has allied with Las Vegas-based Terrible’s. This agreement aims to prevent their establishments from transforming into deserted spaces by July 4.

Cory Clemetson, the grandson of Primm’s founder and president of Primm South Real Estate Company, emphasized the strategic partnership’s importance. ‘We’re pleased that we were able to secure such a qualified and like-minded partner for our properties at Primm,’ he stated.

Tim Herbst, president of Terrible’s, expressed his enthusiasm about the collaboration. ‘Primm has long been one of Nevada’s most recognizable destinations. This partnership reflects our commitment to preserving that legacy while creating new opportunities for growth, investment and tourism,’ he said. Herbst believes that the future holds promise for Primm.

Primm has historically been an affordable alternative to Las Vegas. However, impending closure threatened its last casino hotel. The Primm Valley Resort & Casino was scheduled to close on July 4, which would have resulted in 344 job losses. Affinity Interactive, operating Primm properties under New York-based Z Capital for nearly 15 years, announced the closure due to financial losses.

If [my grandfather] were alive today, he would be outraged [about the idea of] letting go in excess of 300 people on the 4th of July.

Clemetson expressed his hope for a responsible transition with the new operator. The Primm family aims to ensure continued employment for dedicated staff who have long served the company.

In the 1970s, Primm became a thriving spot for travelers looking for a less-expensive Las Vegas-style experience. Despite the recent downturn, elements of nostalgia remain strong for many visitors. Clemetson recalled, ‘I think people just remember the great days when they stopped as kids.’

He shared fond memories of his childhood at Primm and the simple pleasures his family offered, including affordable dining options like a $1 Coney-Island style hot dog.

Looking ahead, developments around Primm include the new Southern Nevada Supplemental Airport (SNSA). Scheduled to begin construction by 2029 and potentially open by 2035, the airport could breathe new life into the area.

The Herbst family, with its experience across gaming, retail, and hospitality, envisions enhancing the Primm properties. Planned improvements include property renovations and upgraded amenities.

Clemetson remains optimistic about the future. ‘My grandfather is known as a legendary figure in our state … with a lot of history,’ he said, reaffirming the family’s commitment to preserving their legacy.
