Prince Harry and Family Plan Return to UK from California

Prince Harry, along with his family, will move from Southern California back to the United Kingdom, according to a source familiar with their plans. The Duke of Sussex, aged 41, his wife, Meghan, 45, and their two children, Archie, 7, and Lilibet, 5, have been residing in Montecito, a wealthy area in Santa Barbara County.

King Charles has been informed about the family’s decision, though the move was not discussed during Harry and Meghan’s visit in July, as reported by The Telegraph. King Charles is open to seeing more of the family privately, but they will maintain their status as private individuals and nonworking members of the royal family.

After stepping back from royal duties in 2020, the couple chose to live in California. The Telegraph and The Sun first reported their move back to the UK. Their children, Archie and Lilibet, have been enrolled in British schools for the upcoming academic year, indicating the family may relocate soon. However, Harry and Meghan will remain private individuals and will not reside in a royal property.

On security matters, a U.K. Home Office spokesperson stated, “It is our long-standing policy not to provide detailed information on those arrangements, as doing so could compromise their integrity and affect individuals’ security.”

Meghan plans to continue managing her lifestyle brand, As Ever, in the UK. A spokesperson for the Sussexes did not refute the plans to return. The move follows Harry’s challenging visit to the UK in July, during which he faced issues over accommodations and travel security.

A royal reunion might be complex due to Harry’s strained relations with King Charles and Prince William. Harry discussed these tensions in his 2023 memoir “Spare” and commented publicly on his intentions to reconcile with his family, aiming for 2025. His father, who is currently receiving treatment for cancer, met with Harry last year, despite previous communication issues.

Royal correspondent India McTaggart revealed that Harry has long expressed his wish to bring his children closer to the king and the Spencer family side.

Harry’s charitable work in the UK, including involvement with Invictus and WellChild, may influence the family’s decision. McTaggart noted that while Harry’s relationship with his brother, Prince William, remains tense, Harry has increased conversations with King Charles.

The move back is seen as aligning with Harry’s connection to his charities and friends located in the UK, simplifying issues related to security.
