Russian Missile Strikes on Kyiv Result in Fatalities and Injuries

At least 10 people lost their lives when Russian missiles and drones targeted Kyiv overnight into Monday. Ukrainian authorities reported these incidents occurred shortly after President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned of an imminent large-scale attack.

Local officials stated that 46 individuals were injured as emergency teams searched through debris in residential high-rises hit in two separate areas. Among the casualties, at least seven were killed during the assault in the capital on July 6, 2026.

“These are residential buildings. Places where people slept and lived their ordinary lives,” said Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s City Military Administration, on Telegram.

Tkachenko reported partial collapse of a building in the Podilskyi district. Additionally, several buildings in the Darnytsia district suffered damage, with people possibly trapped under wreckage.

The attack involved ballistic and cruise missiles and drones, causing explosions throughout the city. Residents sought refuge in subway stations.

President Zelenskyy, hours earlier, alerted of the incoming Russian attack, mere days after 31 people died in a strike on Kyiv. This happened just before a NATO summit in Turkey.

The recent attack was the largest since Russia expanded its invasion of Ukraine. Zelenskyy urged Western allies to strengthen Ukraine’s air defenses, emphasizing the need for Patriot missiles. He cautioned that without resupply, Russia feels incentivized to continue its four-year conflict.
