Senator Chris Murphy, a Democrat from Connecticut, was taken to the hospital after suffering a stroke on Saturday. According to a statement from his chief of staff, Allison Herwitt, Murphy experienced numbness in his arm while attending his son’s hockey game.
The senator was initially taken to a local hospital before being transferred to Johns Hopkins for closer observation. Herwitt noted, “He was taken to a local hospital, where it was discovered he had experienced a stroke. He was transferred to Johns Hopkins for further monitoring and is responding well to treatment.”
Doctors are reportedly optimistic about Murphy’s recovery, stating that he is awake and alert. They are encouraged by his progress so far. Murphy, first elected to the Senate in 2013, is 53 years old, having been born on August 3, 1973.
Murphy has recently been active on the campaign trail, lending support to Democratic candidates as the party seeks to regain control of the Senate in the upcoming midterm elections. Despite his health setback, his contributions to political efforts remain significant, as seen in his planned campaign activities in New Hampshire.
