Senator Darline Graham Receives Presidential Endorsement for Senate Race

Senator Darline Graham has gained attention after President Trump encouraged her to run for the U.S. Senate, following her appointment to her late brother’s seat. This development has shifted the dynamics of what was anticipated to be a competitive Republican primary for Lindsey Graham’s position.

President Trump expressed his endorsement for Darline Graham through a social media post, applauding her brother’s legacy and highlighting her patriotic commitment. The president met with her in the Oval Office and urged her to participate in the Special Republican Primary on August 11, 2026.

This endorsement marks a significant change in the race, coming soon after South Carolina’s governor, influenced by the president, appointed Ms. Graham as interim senator to complete her brother’s term. Her appointment was originally perceived as a temporary measure, allowing her to cast votes reliably for the Republican agenda while other GOP figures in South Carolina prepared to compete for a permanent position.

Trump’s support introduces the possibility that Ms. Graham could transition from an interim senator to a formidable candidate for a full Senate term, benefiting from her name recognition and the advantages of incumbency.

“If she enters the race, she will have my Complete and Total Endorsement,” said President Trump.

Several notable Republicans were considering entering the race against Dr. Annie Andrews, the Democratic candidate. The list of potential candidates included Representatives Russell Fry, Nancy Mace and Ralph Norman, and Lt. Governor Pamela Evette.

In South Carolina, where Trump’s endorsement carries considerable weight in Republican circles, his backing could significantly influence the decision-making process among candidates. Despite this, the precedent of the president’s favored gubernatorial candidate not winning the primary suggests some candidates might still contest the seat.

Darline Graham’s appointment is set to last until January 3, 2027, which aligns with the end of her brother’s fourth term. The special primary election to determine the Republican nominee against Dr. Andrews is slated for August 11, with the filing deadline on July 28 at noon.
