Sunny Hostin, a co-host of “The View,” repeatedly identified herself as a “former federal prosecutor” to police after her son was stopped for trespassing on Metro-North railroad property. Body camera footage revealed Hostin advocating for leniency on behalf of her Harvard-educated son.
In the video, Hostin contacts an officer by phone, introducing herself and emphasizing her professional background. She insists on her son’s clean record, asserting, “That’s my son. He’s a Harvard graduate. He doesn’t have a criminal record.” The incident, captured on June 16, involved Gabriel Hostin being observed by officers on the Metro-North railroad area marked with “NO TRESPASSING” signs at New Rochelle station.
A Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Police spokesperson confirmed the 23-year-old was near an electrified third rail. Officers halted him near Commerce Drive, ran a criminal background check, and then escorted him from the premises. Police issued a summons due to his cooperation and clean record, though Gabriel questioned the necessity of the summons.
An officer clarified, “Because it is an arrestable offense. I want to make that clear.” He further explained that the lack of a criminal history influenced the decision to issue a trespassing violation. Hostin highlighted her son’s role as a teacher, reinforcing the incident as “an innocent mistake.”
Charging documents show officers observed Gabriel on the active railroad right-of-way and subsequently conducted a warrant check before issuing a trespass ticket. Photographs included in the records display warning signs stating, “NO TRESPASSING – PRIVATE PROPERTY – VIOLATORS WILL BE PROSECUTED.”
In a letter obtained by TMZ, Hostin explained her son’s entry as accidental, noting the entrance gate’s openness and poor visibility of signage. The bodycam footage led to contentious reactions online, with some conservative voices highlighting a perceived discrepancy between Hostin’s previous public comments and reactions during the incident.
Noteworthy reactions included critiques from “Libs of TikTok,” who recalled Hostin’s previous statements about equality under the law, contrasting them with her current appeal to police officers. “End Wokeness” offered similar sentiments, noting potential inconsistencies.
Fox News Digital has reached out to Hostin’s representatives for further commentary.
