Senator Darline Graham, from South Carolina and the sister of the late Senator Lindsey Graham, shared her political aspirations during an interview with ‘Hannity.’ She announced her candidacy for a full Senate term in November. Graham expressed determination to uphold her brother’s legacy, emphasizing his dedication to South Carolinians. She remarked, ‘He’s worked so hard for so long. I can’t allow that legacy to fade. I need to continue his work.’
In a press conference at the South Carolina State House, Governor Henry McMaster had earlier appointed Graham to complete her brother’s Senate term, following his passing on July 11. With plans to serve until January 2027, Graham is now aiming for a full six-year Senate term.
As South Carolina’s first female U.S. Senator, Darline Graham conveyed a sense of ‘inner peace’ about stepping into her brother’s shoes. ‘I feel a tremendous amount of pressure,’ she admitted, adding, ‘But I am prepared and feel a sense of peace about it.’
Her priorities diverge from Lindsey Graham’s, with a stronger focus on domestic issues rather than foreign policy. She emphasized the importance of addressing everyday concerns such as grocery prices, gas prices, healthcare, and insurance.
Lindsey Graham passed away unexpectedly at 71, due to an aortic dissection related to arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease. His death left a significant void for Darline, who referred to him as her ‘rock.’
Since 2019, Graham has been actively involved with South Carolina’s Commission for the Blind, managing a substantial $90 million budget to aid employment for those who are blind or visually impaired. ‘It’s been a passion,’ she noted, emphasizing the importance of possessing a ‘servant’s heart’ for such roles.
