A manhunt lasting 10 hours in Georgia concluded on Tuesday when a bloodhound helped law enforcement to track down a suspect considered dangerous, who was allegedly involved in a shooting incident.
The suspect, identified as Darian Berry Sr., aged 46, is a convicted felon. His arrest followed an incident in Flovilla, approximately 50 miles south of Atlanta, according to information from the Butts County Sheriff’s Office.
Law enforcement officials stated that even though Berry attempted to escape, the persistent efforts of law enforcement and the bloodhound’s remarkable tracking abilities led to his capture.
The sheriff’s office emphasized the determination of law enforcement and the exceptional tracking capabilities of the bloodhound, which played a crucial role in apprehending Berry.
The suspect was arrested in Butts County, as confirmed by the sheriff’s office deputies. Initial reports indicated a domestic incident involving Berry had taken place earlier that day.
Berry faces allegations of confining or restricting his victim. Further charges include arson and stalking. Upon police arrival, Berry reportedly escaped on foot, and authorities believed he was armed, which triggered an extensive search operation.
The local community received a BOLO alert, urging them ‘to be on the lookout’ for Berry. Bloodhounds utilized by police K-9 units are renowned for their keen sense of smell and proficient tracking capabilities, aiding in locating Berry.
The Georgia Department of Corrections K-9 Unit’s bloodhound significantly assisted in Berry’s capture by Tuesday evening.
Berry is now facing numerous charges, including aggravated assault, stalking, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during a felony, obstruction, two counts of arson, battery, family violence, and false imprisonment.
