President Donald Trump has extended an invitation to a teenage lifeguard, Ryder Williams, recognized nationally for a courageous ocean rescue, to visit the White House. This invitation follows his fearless efforts in saving a child from dangerous surf conditions.
The incident, recorded by Scott Vander Dussen of Santa Cruz Now and shared widely on social media, shows the 16-year-old Ryder Williams successfully rescuing a young boy caught in treacherous surf at Seabright State Beach in Santa Cruz, California. The 10-year-old had been swept approximately 15 yards from the shore before Williams reached him. Several onlookers at the beach also assisted in the rescue, which took just over two minutes.
President Trump announced his intention to honor Williams by inviting him to the White House. He expressed admiration on social media, stating, “We’re going to bring this heroic young man, and his family, into the White House with, perhaps, the boy he saved, to give him a High Civilian Honor. Very brave, he deserves it!”
Who is Ryder Williams?
Ryder Williams was identified by his family to the California Post as the young hero. His father, Shane Williams, spoke on behalf of the family, expressing pride in what he described as an “amazing kid.”
“He just wants to be a kid and work hard this summer and serve and protect his community,” Shane Williams said.
Shane Williams added, “He’s doing great. We’re so overwhelmed. I’m trying to shelter him. I still see him as a little boy.”
