Melissa Gilbert

Melissa Gilbert is best known for her role as Laura Ingalls. She was only 9 years old when she started in 1974. Throughout its nine seasons, she not only played the lead role but also served as the show’s narrator. During her time on the show, she appeared in several TV movies and later in numerous series like ‘Touched by an Angel’ and ‘Nip/Tuck’. Recently, she shared on Instagram that she would not be returning to ‘When Calls the Heart’ due to budget constraints.

Gilbert remains supportive of her husband, Timothy Busfield, who faced serious charges recently. She has publicly defended him, describing him as caring and trustworthy.

Michael Landon

Michael Landon, who played Charles Ingalls, had a prolific career before ‘Little House’. He was involved in directing, producing, and writing many episodes. Landon later starred in ‘Highway to Heaven’ and was remembered fondly by Gilbert as a mentor and father figure. Sadly, Landon passed away in 1991 at age 54 due to pancreatic cancer.

Karen Grassle

Karen Grassle portrayed Caroline Ingalls, Laura’s mother. Before ‘Little House’, she was known for her theater work. After the show, she continued acting until 2021. Grassle had disputes with Landon over salary but reconciled before his death. She values her role as Caroline, applauding her character’s strength.

Melissa Sue Anderson

Melissa Sue Anderson played Mary Ingalls and was the only cast member nominated for an Emmy, recognized for an episode where her character goes blind. Dean Butler

Dean Butler joined the show as Almanzo Wilder, Laura’s husband, in later seasons. He switched to working behind the camera, focusing on producing. He praised the ‘Little House’ reboot’s attention to musical elements present in Laura Ingalls’ books.
