Recently, Tiger Woods broke his silence with a heartfelt message on Memorial Day. He expressed gratitude to those who sacrificed their lives for their country. Woods also paid a special tribute to his late father, Earl Woods, who served in the U.S. Army Special Forces during the Vietnam War.
Woods shared on X, “My father was a Special Forces operator with two tours in Vietnam and 20 years of service. To all those like my father, we all say thank you for your sacrifices. Without them we wouldn’t have the greatest country on Earth.” Earl Woods passed away at 74 in May 2006.
Tiger Woods had been absent from the public eye since March 31. He announced he’d temporarily step back to seek treatment following a car accident and a DUI arrest in Florida on March 27. He was charged with two misdemeanors: DUI with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test.
Despite providing breathalyzer samples showing 0.00 results, his refusal to provide a urine sample resulted in a charge. On April 1, Woods received permission to travel abroad for inpatient treatment.
After being spotted in Florida earlier this month, Woods’ plane returned to Switzerland. This suggests his rehabilitation is ongoing. His brief return to the U.S. coincided with news shared by his girlfriend, Vanessa Trump, of her breast cancer diagnosis. Vanessa called Woods her “strength” in a social media message. They announced their relationship in March 2025.
Woods hasn’t played competitively since the 2024 Open Championship in Scotland.
