Tiger Woods, largely absent from the public since his DUI arrest in March, appeared in a pre-recorded video message recently. This video was played at the Payne Stewart Award ceremony on Tuesday night, honoring fellow golfer Notah Begay. Woods’ message praised Begay’s achievements and contributions to Native American communities.
Woods stated, “You first came into my life when I was 11 years old, playing in the junior world, and you came to watch me play. Our friendship has started there and never ended.” He acknowledged Begay’s efforts beyond golf, highlighting his support for over 80,000 youths and their families, and applauded the work done at the sports complex in San Felipe.
The Payne Stewart Award, given by the PGA Tour, honors a golfer’s character, sportsmanship, and philanthropy. Woods commented on Begay’s significant role in helping struggling communities thrive, stating, “There are so many people out there who are struggling in those communities, and you’re trying to raise the bar to allow them to achieve more.”
Despite the supportive message, some fans expressed concern over Woods’ appearance in the video. One social media user remarked, “Geez, Tiger doesn’t look so good,” referencing Woods’ 50-year-old visage with facial hair. Others shared mixed reactions, with some mentioning Woods’ past health struggles but showing support.
In March 2026, Woods faced another DUI incident on Jupiter Island, Florida, with reportedly found opioid pills. After the arrest, he went to a rehabilitation center in Switzerland. Woods returned to the public eye briefly last month at a PGA Tour event, introducing CEO Brian Rolapp. He has been involved in the Tour’s Future Competition Committee, expressing it as a “privilege.”
Woods is scheduled to appear in court for his March DUI on September 8. This appearance follows his recent personal challenges and efforts towards recovery.
