Trump’s Approval Rating Among Hispanic Americans Sees Growth

President Donald Trump’s approval rating among Hispanic Americans has risen to 37 percent. This data comes from a poll released by The Economist/YouGov. This increase marks a rise in support among this demographic compared to previous measurements. Notably, this is Trump’s highest approval rating among Hispanics in the recent polling series. Previously, early last month, his approval was at 40 percent.

Hispanic voters have played a substantial role in Trump’s 2024 election victory. Although Democrats still hold the majority of Hispanic votes nationwide, Trump has made significant progress with this group compared to earlier Republican candidates. Consequently, his standing with Hispanic Americans is closely monitored by both Republican and Democratic parties. The newest poll indicates Trump has regained some favor with a key constituency that contributed to his return to the White House.

Poll Findings

According to The Economist/YouGov poll, Trump’s approval rating with Hispanics stands at 37 percent, while 59 percent disapprove. His overall approval rating is 39 percent with a 56 percent disapproval rating. The survey was conducted from June 13 to June 15 among 1,549 U.S. adults, with a margin of error of 3.5 percent.

In a survey conducted the previous week by the same pollster, Trump’s approval among Hispanics was 31 percent, with a 62 percent disapproval rate. Another survey conducted from May 22 to May 26 showed Trump’s approval at 23 percent and disapproval at 66 percent.

White House Response

White House Spokeswoman Allison Schuster emphasized Trump’s commitment to Hispanic Americans, stating, “President Trump was honored to receive record support from Hispanic Americans, aiding his 2024 election win. He continues to work toward improving their lives, including passing substantial middle-class tax cuts and defeating Biden’s inflation crisis.”

She added that Trump’s policies allow hardworking Hispanic Americans some relief after years of economic challenges under Democratic leadership. Schuster stated that Trump, along with Republicans in Congress, intends to focus on making life more affordable for working families.

Historical Context

During Trump’s second term, support among Hispanics showed a decline, coinciding with his administration’s strong immigration policies and fluctuating economic conditions.

Florida State University political science professor Andrew Ballard noted the significance of Hispanic voters in Trump’s electoral achievements. Yet, he highlighted that white voters are crucial for Republican success, complicating the assessment of group importance.

Other Polls

A survey by Napolitan News Service, led by Scott Rasmussen, indicates Trump’s overall approval at 42 percent, with a 56 percent disapproval rating. This survey, conducted from June 3 to June 11 among 3,000 registered voters, has a margin of error of 1.8 percent.

The Emerson College Polling survey presents Trump’s approval among Hispanics at 29.5 percent, with a 65 percent disapproval rating. Overall, 39.4 percent approve of the president, while 54.6 percent disapprove. This poll was conducted on June 7 and June 8 among 1,200 likely voters, with a margin of error of 2.8 percent.
