The University of Maryland has taken decisive action against its club tennis team. The team received an indefinite suspension following an incident involving racist imagery.
School officials discovered team members sent emails containing a symbol associated with the Ku Klux Klan to other universities. These communications were linked to an invitational tournament organized by the team.
The university acted on Saturday, suspending the team as soon as the graphic content came to light. Further steps include a referral to the university’s police department. Additionally, the Office of Student Conduct is conducting its own investigation. The university acknowledged the possibility that only a few team members were involved in sending the email.
