US Launches Self-Defense Strikes in Southern Iran Amid Tensions

The United States conducted self-defense strikes in southern Iran on Monday. The targets included missile launch sites and Iranian vessels trying to place mines. The information comes from U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM).

Captain Tim Hawkins, the spokesman for CENTCOM, stated to Newsweek, “U.S. forces conducted self-defense strikes in southern Iran today to protect our troops from threats posed by Iranian forces. Targets included missile launch sites and Iranian boats attempting to emplace mines.” The statement emphasized that U.S. Central Command is committed to defending forces while maintaining restraint during the ongoing ceasefire.

The strikes happened as President Donald Trump mentioned on Truth Social that negotiations with Iran are progressing well. He conveyed, “It will only be a Great Deal for all or, no Deal at all — Back to the Battlefront and shooting, but bigger and stronger than ever before — And nobody wants that!” Trump further suggested that some Middle Eastern countries should agree to the Abraham Accords, highlighting the efforts by the United States to address the complex situation.
