Warehouse Clubs Compete with Convenient Prepared Meals

Families are exploring ways to reduce dinner costs. Warehouse clubs are stepping up with prepared meals, offering an alternative to cooking from scratch or opting for takeout.

Sam’s Club introduces its Member’s Mark Chicken Shawarma Kit, a prepared 37-ounce meal priced under $16, as part of its strategy to provide convenient meal solutions. According to a spokesperson for Sam’s Club, members frequently express the need for easy, high-quality meals at affordable prices.

“Our members consistently tell us they want convenient, high-quality meal solutions at an incredible value,” said a Sam’s Club representative.

The Chicken Shawarma Kit is designed to make mealtime straightforward with components such as six pitas, fully cooked chicken shawarma, Mediterranean-style bruschetta, feta cheese, creamy garlic sauce, and spicy tahini sauce.

Warehouse clubs are not only competing on price but also on value and time savings. Laura Burkemper, CEO of SCALEBLAZER, emphasized that the convenience and affordability of a $16 family meal address several consumer needs: cost-effectiveness, convenience, portion size, and predictability.

The price point of these meals is vital for Sam’s Club customers who are facing increased food and fuel prices. Bryan Gildenberg, CEO of Confluencer Commerce, noted that Sam’s Club and Costco cater to different shopper demographics. Sam’s Club’s focus on price-sensitive meal deals aligns with its members’ needs in current economic conditions.

Customer reviews on Sam’s Club’s website generally praise the convenience and price of the Chicken Shawarma Kit, though some mention concerns about portion sizes not fully filling all six pitas. One reviewer described the meal as a “lifesaver for busy weeknights,” suggesting it as a viable option to cooking or spending on takeout.

However, the feedback also highlights that some users found the portion size insufficient, noting a need for additional side dishes to complement the meal.

As families continue to seek budget-friendly and time-efficient meal solutions, warehouse clubs like Sam’s Club offer prepared meal kits that meet these consumer preferences.
