Cody Rhodes, a well-known figure in WWE, expressed his sorrow over the passing of Andy Williams, known in the wrestling circuit as The Butcher. Williams passed away over the weekend at the age of 48 after collapsing following a match at Enjoy Wrestling in Pennsylvania.
Williams, besides his wrestling career, also played guitar for the band Every Time I Die. Alongside vocalist Keith Buckley, he attended the 2014 Gibson Brands AP Music Awards at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland, Ohio.
Rhodes played a significant role in Williams’ debut in All Elite Wrestling (AEW). The Butcher, The Blade, and Bunny surprised fans by appearing from under the ring to attack Rhodes after a match. Reflecting on that day, Rhodes shared in an OutKick Dropkick interview, “When I was away from WWE, him and Blade, along with Bunny, were recruited for this exciting debut. They came up from under the ring and attacked me. Although I didn’t spend enough time with him, everything said about his warmth and charisma is true. He was intelligent and cultured, beyond how he appeared with his mustache, tattoos, and muscles.”
Rhodes added, “I’m grateful to have been part of his introduction to AEW. My heart goes out to everyone who knew him. His loss is felt deeply by multiple locker rooms he was a part of. Everyone has a positive memory or story about him.”
Williams started his wrestling journey in the early 2010s, debuting officially in 2015. Teaming up with Guilmette, they became known as The Butcher and The Blade, featuring in multiple promotions like AEW, Ring of Honor (ROH), and Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA).
The wrestling community expressed deep mourning over Williams’ loss, remembering him fondly as both a wrestler and musician.
