A Delta Air Lines flight reportedly encountered a firework while descending over Chicago during the Fourth of July celebrations. The incident involved Delta flight 1076 and occurred just before landing at Chicago Midway International Airport.
The pilot reported the event to air traffic controllers after feeling a significant impact on the aircraft. In the audio recording shared by LiveATC.net, the pilot mentioned experiencing a ‘big bang’ at an altitude of 200 to 250 feet. He speculated that the noise might have originated from a mortar used in launching aerial fireworks.
Delta flight 1076, originating from Atlanta, was carrying 52 passengers and six crew members. The aircraft, an Airbus A319, landed safely at approximately 8:30 p.m. local time. Delta confirmed no injuries occurred, and mechanics found no damage to the plane.
Both Delta and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) acknowledged the event, with the FAA stating it would investigate further. There were reports indicating multiple similar incidents could have taken place, though the FAA did not immediately confirm any additional encounters.
The Associated Press reached out to Chicago city officials and the Chicago Police Department for more details, although no further information was immediately available.
