Fetterman Criticizes Democratic Response to Supreme Court Ruling Defiance

Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania has expressed strong disapproval of the Democratic Party’s reaction to New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s decision to ignore a Supreme Court ruling. Fetterman argues that Mamdani’s actions, and the lack of condemnation from fellow Democrats, pose a threat to constitutional integrity.

Fetterman warns of a potential “constitutional crisis” resulting from Mamdani’s stance. He emphasizes the necessity of respecting court decisions to maintain democratic trust. He criticizes his party for remaining silent about the issue and notes what he perceives as a double standard.

The controversy stems from Mamdani’s refusal to abide by a Supreme Court decision that supports former President Donald Trump’s authority to terminate Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitian and Syrian migrants. Fetterman recalled past Democratic fears of a “constitutional crisis” under Trump’s presidency, contrasting those warnings with the current lack of concern.

“I haven’t seen the outcry now that the mayor of New York is openly defying a Supreme Court ruling,” Fetterman remarked during his appearance on “Saturday in America.” He noted that members of his party either support Mamdani or ignore the issue, highlighting the potential for a constitutional crisis.

The Supreme Court recently delivered two immigration-related rulings. In Mullin v. Al Otro Lado, the court decided that migrants turned away at the border can’t apply for asylum. In Mullin v. Doe, the court ruled against judicial relief for TPS holders, allowing the Trump administration to advance its efforts to revoke their status.

Mamdani released a video statement claiming his administration would not accept the Supreme Court’s decision. Fetterman has consistently cautioned against the influence of far-left figures like Mamdani gaining momentum within the Democratic Party.

Furthermore, other Democratic candidates, such as Graham Planter from Maine and Nithya Raman from Los Angeles, among others, have also sparked discussions about the party’s shift to the left.
