Five Fatalities in South Georgia as Police Probe Suspected Murder-Suicide

Late Friday evening, five individuals were found shot to death at a residence in South Georgia. The Douglas Police Department (DPD) received a report around 11:09 p.m. and discovered the victims at a home on Robin Lane in the Touchton Woods neighborhood. Officers are actively investigating the situation.

Douglas Now, a local news outlet, indicated that investigators are approaching the case as a possible murder-suicide. Police have not released the identities of the victims or any suspect details as of Saturday morning.

The Coffee County Sheriff’s Office addressed the public through FOX 5 Atlanta, describing the incident as a “terrible tragedy.” Their statement expressed sympathy for the victims’ families and urged prayers for both these families and for the first responders tasked with managing the grim scene.

Douglas is located in Coffee County, southern Georgia, and lies approximately 115 miles northwest of Jacksonville, Florida. Based on estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau in July 2025, Douglas has a population of about 11,864 residents.

Our hearts are with the families and friends who lost somebody they love last night, the statement read. Please pray for them. And please pray for all of our first responders who were there last night. This was a hard scene for everybody involved.

Newsweek reached out to the Douglas Police Department and the Coffee County Sheriff’s office for further information via email on Saturday.

Recent Incidents of Gun Violence

This tragedy follows several recent shootings with multiple victims across Georgia. A mass shooting in Erie, Pennsylvania, on Friday night resulted in the deaths of nine people, including two children.

The Gun Violence Archive (GVA) characterizes a mass shooting as an event where a minimum of four people are shot, either injured or killed, not including the shooter.

This incident marks the third consecutive weekend with a report of mass shooting or multi-victim gun violence in Georgia. Last weekend, a shooting at a homecoming celebration in Vienna, Georgia, left two dead and 35 injured. The attack occurred during a late-night neighborhood gathering.

Earlier, a shooting during an 18th birthday party at Carolyn Crayton Park in Macon on September 27 led to injuries for 12 teenagers. Authorities charged five suspects tied to that case, including a 15-year-old treated as an adult.

Macon is positioned about 60 miles north of Vienna and roughly 115 miles north of Douglas.

Ongoing Investigation

The Douglas Police Department confirmed that its investigation is still active. Officials plan to share more details later on Saturday.
