Kansas City Chiefs Rookie Analysis: Mansoor Delane

Kansas City Chiefs Prepare for Training Camp

The NFL offseason has reached its quietest phase. Teams are in a break between minicamp and training camp. Football fans can look forward to training camp starting soon, with only three weeks left. The preseason and regular season follow, kicking off the week of September 7.

Rookie Spotlight: Mansoor Delane

As part of an offseason series, one rookie from each team is analyzed for potential starting roles. The focus is now on the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs made significant moves in the 2026 Draft:

  • Mansoor Delane, CB, Round 1
  • Peter Woods, DT, Round 1
  • R Mason Thomas, DE, Round 2
  • Jadon Canady, S, Round 4
  • Emmett Johnson, RB, Round 5
  • Cyrus Allen, WR, Round 5
  • Garrett Nussmeier, QB, Round 7

The Chiefs traded up to secure Mansoor Delane in the sixth overall spot. Delane is a unanimous All-American and was a first-team All-SEC player. With Trent McDuffie traded to the Los Angeles Rams, the starting cornerback position is available.

Competition includes Kristian Fulton, Nohl Williams, and L’Jarius Sneed. However, Delane is favored to win the starting role. His college performance supports this prediction. Last season, Delane allowed a mere 40% completion rate, with only 14 catches on 35 targets. He conceded just 165 yards, gave up zero touchdowns, and held opponents to a 31.3 passer rating.

Delane is also known for creating turnovers. Throughout his time at LSU and Virginia Tech, he achieved eight interceptions, four forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery.

Chiefs’ Playoff Prospects

If the Chiefs aim for another deep playoff run, a strong secondary is essential. They’ll face high-caliber quarterbacks like Bo Nix, Justin Herbert, Sam Darnold, Josh Allen, Matthew Stafford, Joe Burrow, Drake Maye, and Brock Purdy. Delane’s skills make him a strong candidate to emerge as the Chiefs’ top cornerback.
