Wisconsin Democratic Governor Primary
The tight Democratic primary race for governor in Wisconsin has seen a significant movement among undecided voters, who appear to have leaned towards Crowley in the closing days. Francesca Hong secured 40% of the votes initially, consistent with a Marquette Law School poll showing her at 38%. Notably, 34% of surveyed voters were undecided, with only 7% supporting Crowley at that time. After Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes withdrew, Crowley rebooted his campaign with Gov. Tony Evers’ endorsement and commenced his ad campaigns. Following the poll, Evers and Crowley campaigned together, while Hong faced scrutiny over her past statements, prompting her to reassess certain positions.
Trump Endorsement Influence and Minnesota Primaries
In Minnesota, Mike Lindell, endorsed by Trump, lost in the gubernatorial primary, marking Trump’s third setback of the year in governor races. Candidates Rep. Randy Feenstra in Iowa and Lt. Gov. Burt Jones in Georgia have also lost. Despite these losses, Trump’s endorsements hold substantial power in Republican primaries, with over 200 candidates endorsed by him winning their primaries this year.
Minnesota Gubernatorial and Senate Primaries
Lisa Demuth has emerged victorious in the Republican primary for Minnesota governor and will go up against Democratic Sen. Amy Klobuchar in the general election. Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan won the Democratic Senate primary, marking a win for the party’s progressive wing by defeating moderate Rep. Angie Craig.
Vermont and Wisconsin Congressional Primaries
In Vermont, economist Amanda Janoo won the Democratic primary for governor and will face Gov. Phil Scott in the upcoming election. Democratic state Sen. Matt Little clinched the Democratic nomination for the 2nd Congressional District in Minnesota.
Additional Competitive Primaries
Several other primary contests were conducted without clear leads. In Wisconsin, with more than 80% of the vote counted, Hong held a narrow lead over Crowley. In the Republican primary in Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District, Michael Alfonso secured the nomination, succeeding Rep. Tom Tiffany, who is running for governor.
