Retirement of Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton Spurs Race for D.C. Congressional Seat

Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton has announced her retirement, sparking a race for the non-voting congressional seat she held in the District of Columbia.

Norton, who served since 1991, faced mounting calls to step down. Her departure has placed Democrats Robert White and Brooke Pinto at the forefront of a competitive primary race. White, known for his previous mayoral candidacy and current role as an at-large councilmember, and Pinto, a city councilmember, are leading the Democratic contenders vying for the seat.

On the Republican side, Denise Rosado, an attorney, has emerged as the likely nominee. This election steps into new territory with the implementation of a ranked choice voting system for the first time in the district.

Polls are set to close at 8 p.m. EDT, with live updates on the election results available at Decision Desk HQ.
