RNC Spokesperson Criticizes Socialists’ Influence on the Democratic Party

The Republican National Committee (RNC) national spokesperson, Natalie Baldassarre, issued a warning on Sunday concerning the current trajectory of the Democratic Party. In a statement to Fox News Digital, Baldassarre cautioned that socialist policies are steering Democrats toward potential political misfortune. This follows comments by Megan Romer, a co-chair of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), during her appearance on ‘The New Yorker Radio Hour’ on Friday.

Baldassarre expressed concerns about the influence of socialists on the Democratic Party. She stated that unless decisive action is taken, all Democratic candidates could face challenging questions regarding the party’s alignment with socialist views that risk national economic stability.

Megan Romer advocated for taxing wealthy individuals in her interview with David Remnick, editor of The New Yorker. Romer highlighted the need to impose hefty taxes on millionaires and billionaires, focusing more on billionaires whom she believes have amassed wealth by exploiting workers. However, she did not provide specific tax rates or thresholds for implementation.

‘I think most billionaires got their wealth because they exploited the working class in some very significant way,’ Romer stated. ‘We believe in taxing the hell out of millionaires.’

David Remnick pressed Romer for specifics on the DSA’s tax policy, questioning her on proposed rates and income levels. Without a detailed response, Romer suggested that policies should align with financial needs arising from national spending priorities.

The DSA’s 2026 program does not specify tax rates or identify targeted groups for proposed wealth taxes. It suggests implementing significant wealth taxes on the affluent and corporations to fund public infrastructure and goods.

The concern of Baldassarre follows victories by DSA-backed candidates in various Democratic primaries, highlighting a shift toward socialist influence. Key wins include Melat Kiros’s victory over Rep. Diana DeGette in Colorado and Darializa Avila Chevalier’s win against Rep. Adriano Espaillat in New York.

Progressive Abdul El-Sayed’s triumph over establishment-backed Rep. Haley Stevens in Michigan’s Democratic Senate primary also drew attention, although Romer clarified that he is not a representative of the DSA, given his capitalist stance.

Meanwhile, the centrist organization Third Way announced on Friday a $15 million initiative through 2028 to counterbalance the DSA’s growing sway. Matt Bennett, co-founder of Third Way, emphasized the goal to protect Democrats against what he characterized as radical and toxic ideas from the DSA.

‘We believe the DSA poses a serious threat to Democrats. Their ideas are dangerous,’ Bennett remarked.

Romer dismissed Third Way’s efforts, expressing confidence in their movement’s future impact on political discourse.

Fox News Digital reached out to Romer, the Democratic National Committee, and the DSA for further comments but did not receive immediate responses.
