Several people sustained injuries, with one person in critical condition, following a seaplane crash off the coast of Washington state on Thursday. The incident involved a Kenmore Air seaplane carrying 11 individuals.
The emergency landing and subsequent fire occurred near Sucia Island in the San Juan Islands at approximately 5:30 p.m., according to the U.S. Coast Guard’s report to CNN. The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the pilot and the 10 passengers were rescued from the water.
“There are multiple patients with injuries ranging from head injuries to broken bones and lacerations, with 1 patient in critical condition and no reports of fatalities at this time,”
explained the sheriff’s office. Kenmore Air revealed that the de Havilland DHC-3 Otter aircraft crashed about 45 minutes after departing from Lake Union in Seattle. In response, the airline canceled all scheduled flights for Friday.
Kenmore Air CEO David Gudgel expressed gratitude for the rescue efforts, stating,
“We are grateful that everyone aboard has been accounted for, and our immediate focus is ensuring our passengers and pilot receive the care and support they need.”
He also thanked the United States Coast Guard and local emergency responders for their assistance. Kenmore Air confirmed its full cooperation with the ongoing investigation and promised to share verified information as it emerges.
