Senator Susan Collins, a Republican from Maine, emphasized her refusal to be intimidated following the vandalism of one of her constituent offices. On Monday, her office in Biddeford was defaced with the words ‘Trump Whore’ spray-painted on its doors. This incident did not deter the senator from her duties.
Maine state Sen. Matt Harrington shared the photo of the vandalized doors on social media. Meanwhile, the Biddeford police confirmed they are investigating the matter.
‘Vandalism is unacceptable. Senator Collins and her staff will not be intimidated. Our Biddeford office remains open to serve the people of Maine,’ said Collins’ Chief of Staff Katie Brown in a statement.
Senator Collins is seeking re-election for a sixth term in the Senate, running against Democratic opponent Troy Jackson, the former Maine Senate president. The Democrats view this seat as crucial for regaining a Senate majority.
Troy Jackson’s campaign did not respond to requests for comment regarding the vandalism. Former state Rep. Austin Theriault, now a Republican congressional nominee, criticized the lack of condemnation from Jackson, questioning if Maine Democrats face an ‘identity problem’ due to the silence.
Maine GOP Communications Director Kristina Parker attributed the vandalism to the ‘radical left’s aggression,’ calling for quick and decisive prosecution to prevent such behavior in the political arena.
Senator Collins’ Biddeford office is near the location of a fatal shooting involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. Following the incident, protests targeted Senator Collins due to her support of ICE funding.
The moderate Republican senator has maintained a high profile, casting her 10,000th consecutive senate vote, and has at times diverged from former President Donald Trump. Despite receiving praise, Collins has faced bipartisan criticism. She opposed Trump’s tariffs on Canada and voted against Attorney General Todd Blanche’s confirmation. However, her 2018 support of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh sparked continued critique from Democrats, especially following the overturn of Roe v. Wade.
