An eyewitness, Lane Koehn, recounted to the Associated Press the tense moments when a man armed with a handgun confronted a suspect wielding an AR-style rifle. This confrontation happened near the drive-thru of the restaurant. Koehn noted that the man with the handgun fired at the suspect, compelling the shooter to seek cover.
After the gunfire, the man with the pistol took immediate action to assist an injured employee at the restaurant, showing concern and bravery until paramedics arrived. The New York Times reported Koehn describing the man with the handgun as ‘an older gentleman’ whose actions seemed to influence the suspect’s retreat.
