WARREN, Mich. – Fresh off her Republican primary win, experienced meteorologist and Congressional candidate Terri DeBoer is eager to reclaim Michigan’s Third Congressional District for the GOP. DeBoer shared with Fox News Digital that residents are eager for change and representation that reflects their West Michigan values. She asserts she is the best candidate for the task.
DeBoer, 61, has a 30-year career with several television stations in western Michigan. She aims to challenge the district’s Democratic hold since 2022, when it was taken by Rep. Hillary Scholten.
“The Democratic Party has lost its way,” DeBoer said. She believes they support candidates who compromise what makes America strong.
Beyond her race, DeBoer questioned whether Abdul El-Sayed’s Senate primary win signals stronger support for progressive ideals within the Democratic Party. She receives positive feedback from the public, highlighting a disconnect between Scholten’s moderate campaign image and her congressional voting record.
Scholten’s opposition to the SAVE America Act and her stance on transgender participation in female sports exemplify this contrast, according to DeBoer. In January 2025, Scholten voted against a bill to ban transgender women and girls from female sports teams, as per U.S. House voting records. DeBoer, seeing herself as an outsider, claims her positions align more closely with the electorate, intending to bring ‘common-sense values’ to Washington.
Addressing key campaign issues, DeBoer prioritizes affordability amid rising costs of essentials like groceries, energy, housing, and healthcare. Her campaign focuses on securing the border, expanding healthcare options, supporting reliable energy, and reducing small business regulations.
“People work harder than ever but feel left behind,” DeBoer noted.
To tackle rising costs, DeBoer proposes reducing federal spending and eliminating government inefficiencies that restrict economic freedom. Her goal is to restore affordability in America.
