In March, a heat wave exacerbated the situation by melting the remaining snow. This rapid melt led to a declaration of a drought emergency across the state.
Dry thunderstorms followed, further worsening conditions. These storms, accompanied by strong winds, fueled fires across Utah in June. One of these fires expanded to become the sixth-largest in the state’s history.
