After a challenging four years, a boy with hearing loss, Titan, heard his parents’ voices and his own laughter fully for the first time. Born in 2021, Titan faced bilateral sensorineural hearing loss. This condition reduced his ability to hear to 30 percent compared to a healthy person.

Titan’s mother, Kaitlynn Johnson, was initially uncertain about what his future would look like. However, she and her husband committed to providing him with the best possible life. Kaitlynn shared how hearing loss affected Titan’s speech and development, stating, “He was behind in preschool, not knowing nursery rhymes or his ABCs due to impaired hearing.”

In October 2025, Titan’s world transformed when he received hearing aids. This moment was recorded by Johnson. The audiologist initially set the device’s volume low to prevent overwhelming him. Upon activation, Titan’s laughter confirmed he could hear. Johnson expressed how she and her husband were filled with joy, witnessing their son’s new auditory experience.

Titan’s continuous giggles reflected his excitement in hearing familiar sounds like his parents’ voices. Bilateral sensorineural hearing loss involves inner ear or auditory nerve damage. It’s the most frequent permanent hearing loss in kids, varying in severity.

The CDC reports over 6,000 infants were identified with permanent hearing loss in 2022. Audiologist Kira Savin explained how hearing loss impacts speech and language development. She emphasized that with hearing aids, therapy, and family support, affected children can achieve their potential.

Titan’s growth has been remarkable post-hearing aid. He uses them daily, only removing them at night or when needed. His progress includes weekly speech therapy, vital for his continued improvement.

Johnson shares Titan’s journey on TikTok, where a video of his first hearing aid use went viral with over 1.4 million views. The clip symbolizes Titan’s expanding experience with the world. Johnson hopes his story inspires others, portraying him not as a child with hearing loss but as one loved and capable.

“The message we’d like to share is that even through adversity and uncertainty, having a firm foundation in who we place our hope and trust in—regardless of the outcome—is what matters most,” Johnson said.
