On Wednesday, Nick Reiner pleaded not guilty following a grand jury’s indictment on charges of murder in the deaths of his parents, actor-director Rob Reiner and photographer-producer Michele Singer Reiner. Previously sealed, the indictment was unveiled, detailing allegations of two counts of murder. These charges include special circumstances such as multiple murders and lying in wait. Prosecutors claim Reiner used a knife in the crime.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman expressed, “This was a profound betrayal by someone loved and trusted by the people he is accused of killing.” He also noted the special circumstance of lying in wait, hoping the indictment brings the case closer to trial and justice.
Reiner allegedly attacked his father, 78, and mother, 70, on December 14, 2025, at their Brentwood residence. The police apprehended him later that same day in Exposition Park.
Reiner remains in custody without bail and is set to return to court on September 15. His conviction could lead to life imprisonment without parole, or even the death penalty. Prosecutors have yet to decide on pursuing the death penalty.
